What is the Rainbow Pledge Program?
The Canadian Rainbow Pledge Program is a service and social organization for young girls between the ages of 6 and 11 years of age, Who are willing to pledge themselves to a life of Love and Service. It is hoped that upon attaining their 11th birthday they will apply for membership in the International Order
of the Rainbow for Girls.
What Will Each Girl Gain from Becoming a Pledge?
A Pledge will learn the importance of service to others, to accept responsibility, and to develop her leadership abilities. She will also meet girls her own age and develop new friendships.
Is It a Religion?
No! The Pledge program does require the belief in the existence of a Supreme Being and encourages each Pledge to be active in the place of worship of her choice.
Who is in Charge of the Local Pledge Program?
The pledge program is under the jurisdiction of the Supreme Inspector in Canada. The Grand Cross of Colour members in the Grand Jurisdiction of Canada sponsor the Pledge Sisters. The Pledge Mothers, under the guidance of the Supreme Inspector, oversee the day-to-day operation of the Pledge groups.
Is It Expensive to Become a Pledge Sister?
No! There are no initiation fees or yearly dues. There may be a coin collection during the meetings, but this is strictly voluntary and the girls are not required to give a specific amount.
How Does a Girl Become a Member?
Any girl between the ages of 6 and 11 years may become a Pledge to the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls.
Who May Attend Pledge Meetings?
The meetings are open to Pledge Members, their family and friends. There is NO restriction because of fraternal affiliation. but meetings are not open to the general public.
